Flåm sits at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord, an arm of the Sognefjord, and ships dock beside the small village and its railway station. The Flåm Railway climbs to the mountain station at Myrdal, and many people ride up and cycle or walk back down the valley; on the water, kayaks and RIB boats head into the narrow Nærøyfjord.
